Friends and family of Amy Winehouse gathered today to pay their final respects to the 27-year-old singer who passed away over the weekend at a private funeral in north London.
Her father, Mitch Winehouse, gave an emotional eulogy which ended with the words: “Goodnight, my angel, sleep tight. Mummy and Daddy love you ever so much.”
Mitch Winehouse “told some great stories from childhood about how headstrong she was, and clearly the family and friends recognized the stories and laughed along,” family spokesman Chris Goodman said. “He stressed so many times she was happier now than she had ever been and he spoke about her boyfriend and paid tribute to a lot of people in her life.”
Mark Ronson, Kelly Osbourne, Winehouse’s boyfriend, Reg Traviss, and Winehouse’s band members were among the mourners in attendance. The service finished with the congregation singing Winehouse’s favorite song, Carole King’s “So Far Away”.
The service was followed by cremation and family gathering at a synagogue where a smaller group gathered to say goodbye.
The family will be holding two days of Shiva, a Jewish traditional period of mourning.
