Kris Humphries spoke out for the first time since his very public split from Kim Kardashian in a live interview on Friday morning. The NBA star appeared on Good Morning America, along with his mom, Debra, for a cookie baking segment and to talk about his foundation.
Although it seems impossible for any reporter to have Humphries in the room and not address the doomed 72 day marriage, that doesn’t mean the ballplayer is ready to talk – and legally, we’re pretty sure he can’t say too much!
“GMA’s” Josh Elliott asked several questions about the split, and Hump seemed very cautious in his responses. But if nothing else, we definitely learned, the former Nets ballplayer wants to move forward.
When asked about the experience of living out his life in the public eye, the NBA star said, “It’s been different.” Stating, “But through everything I’ve just focused on family and preparing for basketball. Basketball has always been something I’ve taken really serious and I continue to do that. You know, just moving forward.”
Hump was asked about how he felt when Kardashian filed for divorce. The 26 year old athlete said, “For me, it’s just certain things happen in life and you’ve got to move forward,” he said I am excited to be where I am at right now with the NBA season coming up and I’m ready to go.”
Humphries dodged the question the annulment, stating, “I’m really right now focused on basketball and other things will take care of themselves. You know, it’s a great day for the NBA and the fans. For most people camp starts today, at 4 p.m. Hopefully I’ll be on a team soon and get ready to go”
When Elliot asked what it’s like watching himself on TV, knowing how it all ends. The free agent said, “The only things I really watch on TV of myself is playing basketball, game films and stuff like that. I’ve never been someone to really to watch the show on TV or anything like that. For me my focus is just basketball, my foundation, family and moving through life.”
Does Humphries think his public image has been affected by all this “I think if people know me and they know who I am and what I stand for, I think that they’ll know I love to give back. I’m a fun guy. I don’t really play into all the gossip that takes place. It’s life.”
In a particularly awkward moment, the former Nets star was asked if he still loved Kardashian. He skirted the question, saying, “I’m focused on just what I can control, which is being ready to play ball, and supporting my mom and her cookie bake today.”
So now that the NBA season is about to begin, will Humphries be given the opp to really move forward and play ball? We definitely hope so!
