This makes the boy band the first British group to take the top spot in the U.S. with its debut release.
UP ALL NIGHT went straight to No #1 on the digital chart within minutes of its official release last Tuesday March13th.
Last week in New York City, over 10,000 fans showed up for the band’s first live TV performance on NBC’s Today Show. Later this month One Direction will perform their hit single “What Makes You Beautiful” on the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards March 31st, and will appear in an episode of iCarly “iGo One Direction” set to premiere April 7th on Nickelodeon.
The band will also be the musical guests on Saturday Night Live April 7th with guest host Sofia Vergara.
The X Factor group, who were put together and mentored by Simon Cowell on the UK version of the hit TV show in 2010, were signed to SYCO/Columbia in 2011.
For those who don’t already know, One Direction consists of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. All of the guys hail from the U.K., except for Horan, who is from Ireland.
All five of the boys (ages 18-20) auditioned for the UK X Factor in 2010 as solo artists. However, at the suggestion of Simon Cowell they joined forces as a group, and quickly became one of the competitions most popular acts ever, finishing in the final three and achieving a massive fan-base along the way.
